Conference Report

The 2008 NFIC Annual Conference was held at the University of Manchester.

Entitled, Can we reduce dental inequalities in children? it brought together experts and policy makers from dentistry and public health to examine the effectiveness of different fluoride applications available to health professionals in helping them to reduce dental inequalities in children.

The Economic and Technical Aspects of Water Fluoridation - An Interactive Workshop

This meeting held in September 2007 provided healthcare professionals with information on undertaking health economic assessments of potential water fluoridation schemes, prior to undertaking consultations.

Responding to requests for information on this subject, the workshop looked at how to undertake an evaluation in order to ascertain whether water fluoridation is a viable option and whether this pubic health measure represented an effective use of resources for SHAs and PCTs.

A guide to undertaking an economic and technical evaluation was prepared and issued to all delegates.

Annual Conference 2007

The 2007 NFIC annual conference, 'Researching Water Fluoridation; Evaluation & Surveillance', looked at the importance of undertaking continued research into the safety and effectiveness of water fluoridation programmes.
